Big Thank You and a Good-bye…

Saturday, May 30/09 marked the first time that parent council has taken part in the town wide garage sale.  Thanks to Lada Mussellam for volunteering her time to organize and execute  this event!  Thanks to her helpers Denyse Nicholls-Lamblez, Adam Lamblez, Tyson Wieler, Glenn, Danielle, James and Allyssa Mussellam, and Cam, Mackenzie and Breanna Miller.  Thanks also is extended to Allison Vince of Jump and Play Rentals who kindly donated the use of one of her sliding structures.  It was a huge hit with the kids!! (and maybe the odd adult – Dawn Moxham!)  Between the sales and the slide – $620.00 was raised! 

  This marks my final blog as parent council chairperson.  I am so pleased to have been your chair for 3 years – working with such talent as educators and support staff, caring parents and as we already know – some of the worlds best students!!  Sherrie Upgang has kindly offered to take over the role and I will remain as a rep. for Grade 6 next year to help her transition.  Happy Summer everyone…             Alana Miller

Next and Final Parent Council Meeting

The last parent council meeting for the 2008-09 school year will be held Wednesday, April 29/09 at 7:00 p.m. – OVS Library.  Any agenda items can be e-mailed to me at amiller@skyweb.ca or call 267-2821. 

This will be my last meeting as Chairperson and I encourage current council members to think about taking on the role for next year.

How “Smart are You?”…

Oakville School Parent Council invite you to join us for a Trivia Night – Friday, January 30/09 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm at Oakville School gym.  Teams of 6-8 players at a cost of $80.00 team.  Bring your own snacks – coffee, tea and cold drinks will be provided.  Paper bag auction will also be on site with prizes being provided by the students in each grade.  This is the only planned fund raiser for parent council this year – and what an easy one it is!  So please come out and support us!  Phone Sherrie Upgang for more information or registration – 243-2756.

A Very Successful Day!!

Parent Council was very successful in feeding upwards of 500 people at the Newton Enterprises Auction Sale on Saturday, November 8/08.  A huge thank you goes out to some very hardworking volunteers – Graham Shindle, Shirley Kirton, Shirley Hildebrandt, Ebbonnie Minty-Dodd, Tim Minty-Dodd, Shaunna McCormick, Colin Driedger, Rob Erickson, Glenn Mussellam, Lada Mussellam,  Garth McCormick, Shelby Page, Danielle Mussellam, Breanna Miller, Morgan McCormick, Sarah Dickenson, Kaitlyn Schellenberg, Shania Schellenberg,  and Charles Schellenberg.  In addition to all of these helpers – a big thank you to Jennifer Wolfe, Denyse Nicholls, Shirley Hildebrandt, Lada Mussellam and Sherrie Upgang for sending goodies to sell! 

Thanks to Newton Enterprises and especially Brad Dick for allowing us the opportunity to raise $1227.00 to be put toward the Grade 8 Farewell trip in March and to help sponsor author Sigmund Brouwer at Oakville School.

Quick and Easy Fundraiser… but we require your assistance

Parent Council will be handling lunch duties at the upcoming RONA auction sale at Newton, MB with all proceeds going to the Parent Council Fund.  If any parents are interested in helping out with this painless fundraiser,  we need you Saturday, November 8/08 anytime during the day starting at 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Give Alana a call – 267-2821 if you can free up some time!
